Another September has come and gone, and for the 2nd year, I participated in the SurfAid September #MakeAWave Challenge of surfing 30 days to raise funding and awareness for the SurfAid Programs supporting communities in remote surfing destinations.
Wave-wise, this September looked a bit different from last September which, from my memory, was firing all month. This year, the first half of the month was superrrrr slow, like minimal to no surf, while the second half of the month offered plenty of playful swell for everyone to enjoy.
Fundraising-wise, ya’ll freaking SHOWED UP and helped me smash my original goal of $500, raising a massive $906 that goes directly to the SurfAid Programs that bring clean drinking water, healthcare, and food security to communities in remote surfing destinations, like the Mentawaiis, Sumba, Rote, and beyond.
I re-read this post from last year’s Challenge, and it definitely still resonates! But it’s also cool to see how my perspective has shifted over the year — a nice reminder that life is always offering up opportunities to learn and to grow and it’s up to us to slow down, pay attention, and take advantage of them.
Fundraising is still open until October 15th! So if you’ve got a little extra to give, and this cause resonates with you, then make a tax-deductible donation to my fundraising page by clicking the button below.
