Release tension in the neck and shoulders with these two self-myofascial release techniques that you can easily do at home!
Myofascial Release, or MFR, refers to any kind of therapeutic manipulation of the muscles and the fascia (our soft-tissue framework) . When applied mindfully, MFR techniques can be amazing for athletic recovery, easing pain, improving flexibility & range of motion, and when practiced regularly, can help create positive postural changes, among many other things...
Surfers, athletes, weekend warriors, these techniques are for EVERYONE. Repetitive movements or prolonged positions from sports/hobbies/life (think: paddling or sitting over a desk/computer for hours) can lead to adhesions in the fascia and a build up of scar tissue. If not released, this build up can cause painful inflammation, sometimes trapping nerves, and can lead to limited mobility and a loss of strength.
MFR is a simple and effective way to help break-up these adhesions and release tension, while hydrating the tissues, re-establishing healthy neural & myofascial glide, and restoring neuromuscular connections.
Quick note, I’m new to recording these videos and surprised to learn that I’m slightly more awkward in front of an iPhone as opposed to leading a group of strangers through a yoga practice in real life… but I figure I gotta give it a go and start somewhere!
