My practice is my constant in an ever-changing world.
Like a home I carry with me everywhere I go, it feels familiar, safe, comforting, nourishing... And even though my practice may look and feel a little different every time I show up, I know that there’s a steadiness rooted in the showing up that always has a way of bringing me back to center — reconnecting me with the inner compass of my most authentic self.
There’s no denying that a regular mindfulness practice holds this capacity to make you feel good. But, just as in life, the practice ebbs and flows. Although, it’s comforting to know that it’s always there for us to return to anytime we need it.
Yesterday marked the final day of the #MonthontheMat challenge with Yoga Medicine Online and I’m grateful for my YM teachers that hold space for me, for us all, to just show up as we are.
In a world that’s constantly trying to make us feel like we’re not doing enough or not good enough (especially here on Instagram) MY practice reminds me that I am enough — that we are ALL enough — and there’s nothing we need to fix.
In yoga and in mindfulness, just like in surfing and in life, there is really no final destination to arrive to. You can always draw a different line, cultivate a deeper sense of connection, find a fresh way to flow, learn something new about yourself or the world around you...
I used to get caught up in this idea that my ‘practice’ had to look a certain way to be effective. I laugh as I write that, but at one time it felt true. And I’m here to remind you, today, that you don’t need crystals, incense, the latest yoga gear, a bendy body, or 90minutes for an ‘effective practice.’ Five minutes, 30 minutes - whatever time you have is enough. Props are nice and all, but just you BEING there is enough.
Because at the bottom of it all, our practices don’t care how we show up, they just ask us to show up — again and again and again. That’s where the magic lies, in the showing up.
So, please: Keep showing, just as you are, both for yourself and your world around you 🦋✨
