Now don't get me wrong, sometimes simple can be easy. And that's great. And sometimes there is a place for complexity as well. But the simple, the simple is available. Accessible. And when noticed and practiced regularly, the simple can support us in coming back to center. Back to what's true.
Traveling, for me, always tends to bring with it bursts of inspiration and creativity and a heightened sense of connection to myself & the world around me. The challenge tends to be carrying this inspiration and connectivity with me as I begin treading down those familiar roads of routine that make up the map of regular, everyday living.
I spend a lot of time in my head. Like, a lot of time. But thank goodness for this practice of yoga that has given me so many tools that help pull me out of the whirlpool of overthinking and anchor me into the magic of the now. Here are 3 practices that I use regularly!
To be honest, I'm kind of over hearing about how “time is just flying by,” I'm sick of saying it, too. Because really, all that means is that life is flying by, and I don't know about you, but I don't want to rush that sh*t. I mean, don’t we all know what's waiting for us at the finish line?
In positive psychology, “flow state,” sometimes referred to as “being in the zone,” is defined as “the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.”
Let’s talk about SLEEP. We spend roughly 1/3 of our lives doing it and those (ideally) 7-9 hours each night are essential if we want to function as a human each day. But if you’re struggling with poor sleep and feeling your best each day, here are 3 tips that I’ve found helpful to promote a good night’s sleep…
Just like we can't stop the world from spinning, we also can't stop the passing of time. This moment now will soon be the past and the future will soon become this moment now, so maybe the only way to really sense a slowing down of time is to slow down ourselves.
The New Year can be a nice time to set goals or intentions as it always feels like a fresh start. Although, life is also never linear, and it’s important to remember that we each hold the power to pause, reflect, and begin again whenever we need to clean the slate, recenter, or refocus our attention. Let these prompts support you!
After 3+ years, hundreds of hours of lectures, countless hours of practice, and a handful of dedicated students to be my case studies… On December 1st I got the email that my requirements were met & my case studies were approved!
Let’s talk story: You may have heard this one before, but if you didn’t know, I was a surfer long before I was a yogi. Yoga didn’t come into my life until I was 21. The night of my 21st birthday I was out celebrating with friends…
La brega = The struggle // Resources that I’ve found helpful if you want to take a little deeper dive into the real history and current situation in Puerto Rico. I also share a handful of groups + organizations if you’re looking to donate to hurricane recovery or volunteer.
Mainland Mex has been on my list for a while now, so I was super excited when this trip came together. I went into it with few expectations, and after planning this trip months in advance, we just so happened to luck into one of the better swells of the season…
On more of a personal note: We made it official. After 11ish years, on July 23, in front of just our families and with the help of two incredible friends, we committed to together forever! Read more about our small ceremony and check out some amazing photos by my friend Camryn Derman.
Here I share 7 techniques to downshift and regulate your nervous system so that you can reconnect, recalibrate, and recharge. Especially helpful if you are feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or stressed out.
I think that one of the most common, modern-day misconceptions of yoga is that it’s only about the poses we practice on the mat, when really, well at least the way I see it is, yoga is more so a practice of choosing to show up for life. Yoga is a practice that reaches far beyond these four corners with the capacity to stretch into each + every corner of our lives.
As a part of the Healthy Living Challenge that I’m co-hosting with RAD, we’re encouraging everyone (myself included) to drink 80oz. of water each day. The other two parts of the challenge, mobility + exercise, are both already solid pillars of my daily routine. But the drinking enough water part?? Well, that’s the area I struggle in. So here are my 3 tips to help you drink more.
Like many, I’ve found myself working at a desk and over a computer more than I ever have in the past. And, although I really love what I’m doing — so much so that I can get lost in it for hours without taking a break — I also know that my body + my brain don’t really dig all the sitting… And I’ve got to really remind myself to stop and take some movement breaks! Enter Yoga for Humans that work at desks…
Yoga came into my life when I was 21 years old. Growing up I was an avid athlete – I played soccer and basketball, I was a competitive surfer, and I loved to run and train. Slowing down, moving with compassion, and sitting in stillness were words that most definitely weren’t in my vocabulary, let alone things that I ever practiced regularly…
Taking the time to reflect and to set goals helps me to cultivate a clear and intentional path for navigating my day-to-day. If journaling is new to you and you’re looking for a place to start, or if you’re just looking for a little inspiration, here I share five journal prompts for monthly reflection and goal setting.
Needless to say, 2020 has been a challenging year for us all, affecting humans all across the globe. But I believe that challenges eventually pave way to solid foundations, growth, and expansion. So I thought it would be nice to compile, and share, a list of lessons that 2020 has taught me, and this is what came to mind…

As we find ourselves stepping into what we commonly refer to as “flu season,” still bobbing and weaving our way through a pandemic, there’s a lot of talk around boosting our immune systems, and for obvious and very good reasons. But a strong immune response isn’t just critical now, it’s crucial for keeping us healthy and resilient throughout every season of our life.
Toxins can come in many forms —some more out of our control than others — but as I’m learning, it’s important to minimize what we can. Most oral care products are full of potentially harmful chemicals that can not only be a burden to your system, but that also strip your mouth of ALL bacteria — both good and bad (yes, there is an oral microbiome!). So I was stoked when Oral Essentials asked if I wanted to try their Microbiome Kit!
As some of you know, or maybe you weren’t aware, I committed myself to a 30-day detox program leading up to my 31st birthday, which was this past Friday the 25th. Surprisingly enough, or maybe not surprising at all if you really know me well, this was the first time that I’ve actually successfully completed a “detox” program, and here are a few of my takeaways…
On average, it’s estimated that US adults spend about 90% of their time indoors. And although this tendency is not something new (the indoors is comfy with heat/air, TV, wifi), I also think that it’s really important for us to recognize and utilize the many mental & physical benefits that come from something as simple as stepping out into the sun.
On the topic of diversity in surfing, here are some perspectives to listen to and some organizations to support. Let’s make sure our new normal is one that’s rooted in equity, equality, and celebrating the beauty of diversity. PC: Javier Gil
The saying “only a surfer knows the feeling” has never held more weight than right now. From an outside perspective, surfing can appear as an obsession, or just another form of physical exercise, or a way to spend time in nature. And while surfing is those things, for many of us, surfing is also so much more… For many, it’s a cure.
I was flipping through my old notebooks and journals and came across this poem by Pixie Lighthorse which I just love so much. Her words resonate deeply, especially during these times, so I thought I’d share them with you. Despite this awful and devastating virus, one positive take-away is that Mother Nature is most definitely healing.
Hey friends! It’s been a while. I figured it’s a good time to fill you in on what I’ve been up to… I’ve had to take a step back from it all in order to reconnect to my practice and to get clear around what’s really important for me, what I want to focus my energy and attention on, and what it is I want to share.
